I spoke with S. Chris’ PT to get feedback on the assessment carried out by the Northwick team. They come once a week, it’s a team of neurologist, neuro-rehab and other highly specialized brain injury professionals that provide services to the Jacob’s patients. Dr. S injected Chris’ left arm bicep with Botox - a moderate dosage. It takes about 1 week for any results to kick in so everyone will be following closely. If any positive results come out of this, then they will do it on his right arm and on to his legs. The last Botox attempt at Holy Cross on Chris’ leg (maximum dosage) was fruitless and unsuccessful. The body tends to create “immunity” to the Botox so what was once effective may become less so with increased usage. We will have to wait – and pray for some results.
S. said Chris was a “real trooper” and he took the Botox injection very well – he was more annoyed at her stretching his limbs than bothered by the Botox. In the meantime, they are continuing the stretching and splinting. The Northwick team will be back in January.
Chris was also assessed by the SALT (Speech and Language Therapist) during his PT session. The SALT will do further individual assessments and then I will speak with her to see her conclusions and recommendations. She would be in charge of deploying any therapies regarding Chris’ ability to communicate so I am very eager to hear from her.
