Today is Chris' two year injury anniversary. 730 days ago his and all of our lives, as we knew it, ended. And that life will never come back as much as we want it. Today I feel more hopeful than 1 year ago. I feel so blessed by all the support surrounding Chris and I. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Below, the major milestones on Chris' recovery in the 2nd year.
April 2006 (12 months):
• Chris smiles in response to emotional stimuli
• Chris starts to drink and swallow safely
• Blueberries juice started daily (165 mls per day) through feeding tube
May 2006 (13 months):
• Chris has yogurt successfully for the first time (takes a long time to finish)
June 2006 (14 months):
• Chris’ drinking and yogurt eating improving
• Chris spasticity worsening
• Marine Phytoplankton started (40 mls 4x week)
July 2006 (15 months):
• Soft solids being successfully introduced (mashed potatoes, French fries, avocado, chicken soup, mashed carrots, sausage, pizza)
• Cod Liver Oil started (10 mls 4x week)
August 2006 (16 months):
• Chris starts on glyconutrients: Ambrotose
• Chris laughs on occasions
• Chris’ ability to open his mouth and chew is visibly improved
October 2006 (18 months)
• Chris starts on Chinese herbs (once a week, 20 ml)
• Chris is able to have full course meals now, eats better and faster
• Chris undergoes HBOT therapy
• Chris starts Ambien/ Zolpidem (5 mg everyday)
• Chris starts eating solids (roast beef)
November 2006 (19 months)
• First reports of Chris indicating YES and NO with his head and eyes
• Peak of alertness and responsiveness (I firmly believe it was the Ambien or the HBOT, or the combination of both)
December 2006 (20 months)
• Ambien/ Zolpidem withdrawn
• Chris shows some regression on his level of alertness, awareness, fatigue
January 2007 (21 months)
• No more Yes and No signals, therapists feel Chris has no cognitive ability
• Spasticity worsening
March 2007 (23 months)
• Low emotional mood very evident, Chris seems very sad and low, does not smile as often
April 2007 (24 months)
• Chris is able to get aroused (for the first time)
• Chris receives fetal neural stem cell injections (1 injections of 3 million cells each)
• High level of alertness (precise with tracking and noticing minute movements and sounds)
POSITIVE developments in the 2nd year:
• Chris eating full course meals
• Emotionally responsive
• More alert and aware of surroundings
• Slight movements, specially on the right side of his body
NEGATIVE developments in the last year:
• Chris spasticity problem has escalated: atrophy of upper limbs, lower limbs can NOT be stretched out anymore
• Crippled hands
• Still he does not respond to command, does not have any means of communication
• Can not go up on the tilt table anymore as knees are bent and will not stretch out
• At high risk scoliosis and posture problems
Therapies tried year 2:
• PT: 3x a week
• SALT: 1x a week
• HBOT 25 dives of 90 minutes each at 2.2 ATM
• Daily hand / foot massage for 30 minutes
• Reiki and Cranio Sacral Therapy (occasionally)
• Acupuncture: 1x a week
• Stem Cell Therapy (currently undertaking)
• Nutrition: daily Glyconutrients, DHA, Plankton, Blueberry Juice
