Sorry it's been a while since the last update. The trip back to London was absolutely exhausting, I could not stop thinking about how tougher this would be for Chris as I sat on my airplane with a sour bottom for hours in a row. I'd get up for a walk and get upset about the fact that Chris would not be able to get up, stretch himself, etc… I have told my dad to continuously keep changing the position of Chris' chair so he would never be in one single position (with one pressure point) for extended periods of time… Anyway, coming back after more than 3 weeks means loads of mail, errands, work accumulated, shopping for Gabriel's school (he's grown out of his shoes) and his friends (3 birthday parties coming up in the next two weeks), and LOADS of things / paper work to catch up on. I also would like to write individually to every person who helped with the fundraiser / donated/ followed Chris' progress but that's also proving challenging time-wise…
Since my return to London, Chris successfully received his last 3 injections of umbilical stem cells, 2 of which were given via IV. This is a new procedure for Chris and my dad told me it took less than an hour and there are no restrictions afterwards (i.e. laying flat on his back for example). Time flew by. As I type this, Chris is on air flying back to London. Eddie and Ryan left NY on Tuesday, arrived on Wednesday and left early Friday morning. After Chris, those two are the ones I feel for the most because this is a lot of flight time and time zone change in a very short period of time.
I will meet them all at the airport this afternoon, release my dad, Eddie and Ryan so they can get some rest and get on the van with Chris to go to the Jacob and make sure he settles down OK.
I think Chris second trip to China for stem cell went very smoothly overall and now I just pray hard for more changes to come… I have also been working on setting up the additional therapies for Chris. I have a private SALT coming to assess Chris early in May. I want to give Chris time to rest before any evaluations take place, as I know well, Chris responsiveness is very related to his physical condition and I do not want him to be tired and dozing off when the SALT comes to evaluate him. I will bid this out so I am in the process of getting a second SALT to evaluate and then decide on the best quality and most cost effective option for Chris. On the PT side, I am a bit behind as I did not get any feedback from Chris' therapists from the Jacob so I have that to be chased next week.
I will spend the night with Chris at the Jacob but rush back home tomorrow morning as Gabriel has two birthday parties, the one on Saturday morning can not be missed as it used to be his best friend from nursery. So we will not visit Chris this weekend but just let him rest and recover for now.
Many thanks for checking on us all.
With love,
Koo
